Berenstain Bears Cook-It
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 1999)
Average review score:

Excellent kitchen teaching!I really enjoyed reading this book with my son who's a very good reader at 6 thanks to the Berenstain Bear Books. This book focuses on a 'breakfast in bed' surprise for mama: how they don't wake her, how they planned the surprise, what they planned to cook and about the mess they DIDN't make in the kitchen and why. My son immediately wanted to try the same thing and secretly with my husband, made me breakfast in bed (without the melons). However, since he never had melon balls, on another occasion, we followed the instructions in the book and enjoyed melon balls for days. Since I want to teach my son to be independent in the kitchen, this was a very good beginner book concerning safety and planning. I highly recommend it.

Best Practice Creativity
Published in Hardcover by Gower Pub Co (October, 1998)
Average review score:

This will become a business & management classicAs Monty Python would say "this is not a book to lay down and avoid". Indeed, this a companion, guide, expert, tutor and even, dare I say, portable consultant in creativity. If your firm's blue meanies allow you to buy only one book on creativity then, be creative and buy this one! Best Practice Creativity provides not only a menu of innovation ideas but also a intelligent person's methodology on how to implement those ideas contingent on environmental factors. The range stretches from strategic heights to operational necessities. The book takes a bus stop approach (stop me for an idea) which invites the reader to dip in and bathe in the sheer delight of diversity. Fans of change management will love to explore this book as they look for new ways and non-believers will experience pleasant shifts in paradigms as they become enchanted by the ease with which Cook describes the successful cases along with the learnings from failures! Those managers who use business models as transition objects will be overjoyed at the huge number of teddy bears Cook has rounded up for them - my favourite is the Product Destiny Matrix which works really well. A splendid piece, Mr Cook, more broth please!

Better Homes and Gardens Casual Entertaining Cook Book
Published in Hardcover by Meredith Books (January, 1981)
Average review score:

In the Top FiveOut of the 200 odd cookbooks I own, this one is in the top five most used cookbooks. Don't let the title fool you- the recipes are great for entertaining, but also easy enough to prepare for family meals. Not a dud in the book! The Sole Provencale is easy and excellent! If you can get your hands on a copy-grab it!

Better Homes and Gardens Homemade Cookies Cook Book

Great recipes, great tips!I've owned this book for years, and though sadly it's now out of print, it is readily available from used booksellers right here ... . This book has some really wonderful recipes, many of them out-of-the-ordinary, and many traditional ethnic cookies (marked as Swedish or Finnish, and so-on) organized into sections such as bar cookies, drop cookies, refrigerator cookies, shaped cookies, holiday cookies and so on. There are full-color pictures of almost every cookie. The recipes are interspersed with illustrated instructions and tips, and there are sections of the book dedicated to decorating cookies, storing cookies, giving cookies as gifts and how best to pack each type, and a list of recipes in the book which are "good travelers." I highly recommend that anyone who loves making and giving cookies, especially during the holidays, pick up this book.

Great recipes!Just reading the recipes makes your mouth water. I have only tried two of the recipes, but both were wonderful. The pictures are fantastic and the book, with it's spiral bound hardback, lays open easily. Several of my family members were so impressed that they had me order this book for them as well.

Birth of Jesus
Published in Paperback by Chariot Victor Pub (February, 1969)
Average review score:

An Excellent Introduction to the GospelsThis book is an excellent choice to introduce anyone to the Gospels, particularly the stories of Jesus' birth, early life, and parables. The stories themselves are clearly told, and beautifully illustrated. They are not embellished with unnecessary or confusing additions, and they stick closely to the Biblical original, so that the stories are easily recognizable when the reader is ready to pick up the Bible itself. The embellishments that are included, and which make this book so much more interesting and informative than most, are in the margins. The author has put in small paragraphs, photos, and drawings that tell about life in the time of Jesus. From the old Roman coins to the staff and crook that would have been carried by the shepherds, these notes help the reader identify with the characters and understand the context of the stories. Beginning with the first page (a map of ancient Israel with notes about Jesus' life and the location of each story) and continuing through the wonderful index, this book will delight and educate any child 9-12 years old, and most older children and adults as well. If you are looking for a way to show someone what the Gospels and the life of Jesus are all about, you could not pick a better place to start than this book.
